Q: How would you describe your design style?
My design style is bold and vibrant. I really love blending intriguing compositions with soft and harmonious colors. It’s really important to me to come up with an exciting color palette because colors have such a powerful way of affecting our mood and brightening up a space. I love designing pieces that feel warm and inviting, yet still have that element of surprise or intrigue.
Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?
My personal experiences and identity are at the heart of everything I design. Living in Florida, I’m constantly inspired by the sunshine, the outdoors and my love of being present. Human connection, nature and finding beauty in simple everyday moments are the center of all that I do. Every design I create holds a bit of that Florida sunshine and balance.
Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into home design projects?
I’m super inspired by the idea of blending the outdoors with the indoors. I love to surround myself with plants and decor elements that bridge that gap, creating spaces that feel connected to nature and bring the outside in.
Q: How do you balance creativity with commercial appeal?
I think that balancing creativity with commercial appeal is about finding that sweet spot where a design feels fresh and fun but still resonates with a wide audience. Some things never go out of style. A good color palette and designs inspired by nature are universally appealing. Designs that make you feel good and lift your spirits :)
Q: What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our style?
As someone who loves to create an environment that feels joyful, Lany Space instantly made my heart skip a beat with their colorful and unique designs. They feel so full of life and brought a big smile to my face.
Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?
The entire collection I designed for Lany Space draws heavily from the subtropical beauty of my surroundings. Botanica, Sunrose and Palmetto are inspired by the lush plant life of this region. Tropicana for example, was inspired by the bananas I grew last year. The harvest was so bountiful and the vibrant colors of the banana flowers really surprised me. I used those colors in the design’s color palette.
Moongrove, Solstice, Wild Stars and Sundial focus on our connection with the cycles of the sun and moon and how they influence our wellbeing. Fruitvine, Terrasun and Harmonia celebrate human connection and the joy of coming together. And Bloomland is a blend of all of these concepts combined.
Q: Among the pieces in these collections, which design is your favorite, and why?
It’s really tough to pick a favorite but if I had to choose, I’d say Botanica (Maggie Stephenson Irregular Botanical Garden Floral Rug). The nature inspired design pulls me in and makes me want to dive into the clear blue water and dream about being surrounded by tropical flowers. It has that vibrant and uplifting energy that I think would make it a fun addition to any space. :)
