An interview with Zoe Wodarz
Q: How would you describe your design style?
A: I'd describe my style as a sophisticated mix of hand-drawn textures and digital design. I love using vibrant color combinations to put a fresh, contemporary spin on popular trends.
Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?
A: I've always felt that my best work happens at the intersection of my creative curiosity and my background in product ideation and design. Having additional experience in merchandising means I'm always thinking about how a surface pattern translates from the moodboard to the shelf and, finally, into someone's home. I love the collaborative nature of art licensing and creating global collections; it allows me to bring my personality and love for trends into a project while ensuring the final piece is intentional and resonates with a wide audience. Ultimately, my experience has taught me how to balance artistic expression with a brand's functional needs, making sure every design feels both personal and purposeful.
Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into home design projects?
A: I like to treat every project as a curated collection of my favorite influences. I'm constantly drawing from my background in art history and my love of travel, but I also find a lot of inspiration in the everyday—like the colors found in a great meal or a vintage treasure found while trend hunting. My studio is filled with objects and memories that spark new ideas, and I bring that same layered feeling into home design. For me, it's about taking those personal moments and translating them into a sophisticated palette, pattern collection or illustration that makes a space feel intentional and full of life.
Q: What drew you to collaborate with our rug brand?
A: As a designer, I'm always drawn to brands that truly value the artist's voice and the collaborative process. What really stood out to me about Lany Space was your bold, unapologetic energy and the genuine connection you have with your artists and community. It felt like the perfect space to bring my love for vibrant color and hand-drawn textures to life, working with a brand that shares my passion for making a statement in the home.
Q: What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our style?
A: My first impression was that Lany Space brings a much-needed sense of bold, bright fun to the home decor market—and honestly, we need more of that right now. I love the idea of creating pieces that spark joy and connect people. I was also really drawn to the unique shapes and scale of the rugs; seeing the artwork actually define the shape of the rug, rather than being confined to a traditional rectangle, is what makes Lany Space feel so fresh and contemporary.
Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?
A: I really enjoyed our process for this collection because we weren't afraid to explore such a wide range of inspirations. We touched on everything from sophisticated, ink-based landscapes and hand-marbled techniques to more playful, bold stripes and graphic elements. We curated the collection by mixing some of my longtime studio favorites with new pieces that lean into current trends. Ultimately, the goal was to keep the focus on fun — creating a diverse artist collection where a customer can see a piece and immediately feel that it speaks to their own personal style and home.
Q: Among the pieces in these collections, which design is your favorite, and why?
A: It's so hard to pick just one because they each bring a different energy! If I had to choose a few standouts, I'd say the Olive Tomato Twist is a favorite for how unexpected yet on trend it feels. I'm also really drawn to Striped Rocks because it captures that nostalgic feeling of holidays by the sea. Then there's Match Set Game, which has such a great, sporty style to it. They all reflect that mix of personal memory and bold design that I love to bring into a space.
Q: If you could sum up this collection in three words, what would they be?
A: Bold, unexpected and playful.
Zoe Wodarz's Designs for Lany Space
Green Irregular Tennis Runner Rug by Zoe Wodarz
Green Irregular Tennis Runner Rug by Zoe Wodarz feels exactly like Zoe's design mindset: take something everyday, then turn it into a bold, intentional statement. She mixes hand drawn energy with a clean digital look here, using bright tennis ball greens and simple court like curves that feel playful but still polished. It is 2'×5', so it slips perfectly into an entryway or hallway and instantly makes the space feel styled. Keep your furniture clean lined and your palette simple, then let this fresh green steal the spotlight.

Irregular Tennis Area Rug by Zoe Wodarz
The Irregular Tennis Area Rug comes in two punchy colorways, pink and yellow, and it takes that everyday tennis idea into something brighter, bolder, and way more fun to live with. You can see Zoe's love for trends here: the tennis ball graphics feel crisp and modern, while the flowing court lines keep it loose and hand made in spirit. Both colors come in 3'×4' and 4'×6', so you can drop one into a kid' room, a game room, or even a calm living space that needs one strong pop. To make it feel intentional, pull one shade from the rug and repeat it once, a pillow, a wall print, or a small side table is enough.

Brown Abstract Striped Rocks Area Rug by Zoe Wodarz
Brown Abstract Striped Rocks Area Rug is her ''Striped Rocks'' moment, inspired by that nostalgic holiday by the sea feeling she loves. The warm brown and golden waves look like sun hitting layered coastal rocks, graphic enough to feel modern, soft enough to feel lived in. It comes in 5'×7' and 7'×10', so it can ground a living room, dining area, or an open studio without taking over. Style it with warm wood, linen or boucle, and creamy neutrals, then add one small coastal nod like a blue glass piece or a sandy toned throw. If your space feels a little flat right now, this is an easy way to add movement fast.

Orange Irregular Papaya Fruit Rug by Zoe Wodarz
Orange Irregular Papaya Fruit Rug is a juicy little statement piece, bright orange with that papaya seed detail that makes it feel graphic and fun. The irregular outline keeps it playful, like a cutout artwork dropped right on your floor. It comes in 2'×3' and 3'×4', so it is perfect by the door, next to a reading chair, or anywhere you want a quick pop of color. Pair it with light wood, white walls, and clean furniture, then add one small warm accent nearby, a candle, a bowl, or a throw pillow, to tie it together. If your space feels a bit too neutral, this is the easiest way to wake it up.

Tomato Twist Abstract Area Rug by Zoe Wodarz
Tomato Twist Abstract Area Rug comes in two colorways: Olive and Red or Blue and Red, and it is bold in the best way. You get that sliced tomato twist look with chunky, rounded shapes that feel graphic, clean, and a little unexpected, which is exactly why Zoe calls it a favorite. Both come in 5'×7' and 7'×10', so they make sense in open living areas, dining rooms, or any big space that needs one strong focal point. Keep the rest of the room simple, then match just one color from the rug in a small detail like a cushion or a framed print so it feels styled, not busy.

Colorful Striped Banana Fruit Runner Rug by Zoe Wodarz
Colorful Striped Banana Fruit Runner Rug is basically a pop art poster, but on the floor: punchy pink and orange stripes, plus a banana graphic that feels hand drawn and a little cheeky. The banana sits like a fun ''stamp'' at the end of the runner, so even a plain hallway suddenly has a focal point. Size is 2'×5', made for skinny entryways, in front of a bench, or that awkward space between rooms. Keep the rest simple, white walls, light wood, clean hooks, then repeat one color once, a pink candle or an orange frame is enough.

Final Touch
Zoe's collection is all about taking everyday little joys and turning them into rugs that actually make a room feel alive, sporty tennis vibes, warm wavy stripes, and that bold Tomato Twist that she calls a standout for a reason. If you are usually a ''neutral home'' person, try starting small with the Papaya or the Fruit Runner and see how much a single pop can change the mood. If you want a bigger shift, Tomato Twist or Striped Rocks will anchor an open space and instantly give it a point of view. Which one feels most like you right now, something playful, something cozy, or something that makes guests stop and look twice?
