Q: How would you describe your design style?
My style is bright, fun, and bubbly—and I love bright colors! As an artist, I strive to be a positive force and enjoy sharing my silliness and humor with others through my work.
Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?
I am often inspired by everyday things, my kids, and my deep love for travel. I find I'm always collecting interesting shapes and ideas wherever I go. Patterns and illustrations have always captivated me—I love seeing the ways they can complement products and spaces to change how they feel.
Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into home design projects?
My studio is filled with colorful bits and bobs, I like to surround myself with art and objects that make me smile. My husband and I are both very creative, so when we designed and remodeled our house, we filled it with vibrant art and enchanting shades of blue and green. I even have two shelves in my kitchen dedicated to colorful knick-knacks that bring joy to the space.
Q: What drew you to collaborate with our rug brand?
When I first came across Lany Space Rugs, I was immediately drawn to their unique take on rugs—I loved how bold and vivid they were. I've spent many hours pouring over pages of boring rungs online and it was so nice to see something new and refreshing! I felt an immediate urge to reach out to them about a possible collaboration, convinced that my fun, bubbly style would be a great match for their striking products.
Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?
My collaboration with Lany Space Rugs has been such a fun journey. After narrowing down the patterns and illustrations we wanted to highlight, we got to really explore juicy color combinations to make the rugs really sing. Half the rugs are from a color and shape collection I created while on an artist retreat in South Portugal. One day, I passed the table of supplies and there was this perfect paper cut-out sitting on top of a colored paper bag, this winning combination of shape and color inspired a whole collection! The other half of the rugs are from a series of patterns I created about making fruit joyful and fun. I wanted to take your average banana and make it into artwork that would turn some heads. In addition to creating patterns, I also spend a lot of time drawing whatever is inspiring in the moment. In this collection you'll find a few fantastical creatures that showed up in my sketchbook one day.
Q: Among the pieces in these collections, which design is your favorite, and why?
I'm so excited to see these rugs in people's homes, but if I had to pick just one, I would pick the two-eyed red octopus. I love how silly it is—I just can't get enough of its googly eyes!
Q: If you could sum up this collection in three words, what would they be?
If I had to sum up this collection in three words I would say it is playful, bold and lively.
