Nimei is a Chinese artist based in Spain whose work gently captures the beauty of women in ordinary moments. Her paintings reflect softness and confidence, shaped by her experiences navigating cultural expectations in China and embracing freedom and ease in Europe. Through flowing lines and vibrant colors, she explores themes of rest, balance and quiet strength, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate life’s small rituals.Let's take a closer look at the inspiration behind her collection and the designs that make it so special.

Lany Space is a home design brand that shares this vision, creating rugs that bring art and comfort into daily living. In this collaboration, Nimei’s signature style comes into the home as designs that feel personal and warm, offering a reminder that art can live with us, not apart from us, and that home is where we are most ourselves.

An Interview with Nimei

Q: How would you describe your design style?

I love using free, expressive brushstrokes to capture the state of women. My design style feels fluid and full of movement, with vibrant colors and relaxed, sweeping lines. I often depict women who appear laid-back yet powerful. I look for a kind of beauty that feels at ease but never weak. Through my work, I hope to challenge traditional ideas of aesthetics and share an image of softness that carries strength and determination.

Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?

I grew up in China, in a society where patriarchy shaped so many women’s lives. I witnessed how women often struggled to find balance between family and society, and I saw the inequalities they faced. From a young age, I began to ask myself: can women truly live for themselves?

Later, when I lived in Spain, I felt deeply influenced by the slower rhythm of life and the openness of the culture. I began to realize that women truly have many choices. A woman can choose to marry or stay single, to have children or not, to define who she wants to be and how she wants to live. We do not need to be defined by society’s expectations.

In my work, you will see a balance of tension and ease. I depict women who are strong and full of energy, and women who are simply enjoying the present moment. This balance between effort and relaxation reflects how I see life itself.

Q: What is your philosophy when it comes to designing living spaces?

I believe a home is the truest reflection of a person. At home, we can take off the masks we wear outside, allow ourselves to relax, and embrace imperfection. In my approach to home design, I like to incorporate flowing lines, warm blocks of color, and open, comfortable poses to create a relaxed, accepting atmosphere.

To me, a rug is more than decoration. It is like a small emotional space. When you step onto it barefoot, you might instantly feel yourself relax and come back to who you are.

Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into home design projects?

I always start from people, not from a specific “style.” I think about what kind of emotion the space should hold. What is the pace of life and personality of the person who lives there? My lines and colors naturally respond to these questions. My personal style—soft but strong, free yet harmonious, relaxed but never messy—emerges naturally through this process. In the end, what I hope to create is not just a beautiful home but a space where people can truly relax.

Q: What drew you to collaborate with our rug brand?

I was drawn to Lany Space’s attitude of bringing art into daily life. You are not just designing products. You are creating emotional and spatial experiences for people. I love your openness in inviting artists to contribute, which makes me feel that my work will be understood and welcomed here, and will truly become part of someone’s everyday life. I have always believed that art should not be confined to galleries. Art belongs in the flow of daily living.

Q: What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our style?

My first impression was that your work feels free, relaxed, and playful. You do not follow tradition or hesitate to use bold colors and expressive lines to convey emotion, yet your designs remain comfortable and practical. This style resonates deeply with me. Your designs feel like “art in everyday life.” They are not objects to be admired from a distance but beautiful companions that live with us every day. This warmth creates a feeling of connection.

Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?

The collection I designed for Lany Space grew from my ongoing theme of "enjoying life." I love to paint women who are relaxed, full, yet quietly strong. Sometimes they are lying down, sometimes lost in thought, sometimes running freely. They do not need to fit into any definition. They do not have to work endlessly to please the world. They can simply live for themselves. You will find flowing lines and gentle curves in this collection, shapes that suggest the natural movement of the body and spirit. I hope that when someone steps barefoot onto these rugs, they will feel a sense of soft freedom.

Q: Among the pieces in these collections, which design is your favorite, and why?

My favorite is the design inspired by the idea that "it feels so good to lie down." The pattern looks like a body gently unfolding, with lines that feel relaxed yet strong and color blocks that are soft and comforting. I love it because it feels honest. It gives you permission to pause, to do nothing, to simply live in the way that feels right for you. I hope it can quietly accompany anyone who needs a moment to breathe.

Q: If you could sum up this collection in three words, what would they be?

Freedom, softness, streng
