Hello Johann, how would you describe your design style?

I describe my design style as bold, playful, and vibrant, featuring strong, vivid colors and clean lines. I put a lot of care into refining each shape to create eye-catching, memorable graphics.

How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?

With a solid background in graphic design, particularly in logo design, my illustrative work often draws from the processes and techniques I use in crafting logos. Much of my inspiration comes from nostalgic cartoons, video games, and playful Japanese graphics.

How do you incorporate your personal style into home design projects?

I enjoy expressing my personality through the way I design my living spaces. I decorate my walls and shelves with bold graphic prints and art toys, pairing them with colorful furniture that features fun and interesting shapes.

How do you balance creativity with commercial appeal?

I believe that if I find something visually appealing, others are likely to feel the same way. Those are the people I aim to connect with when designing my own products. If I try to appeal to everyone, I will appeal to no one.

What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our style?

I’m love that Lany Space releases bold, colorful, and illustrative designs. Most rugs I come across in stores or online tend to be traditional or plain. I love seeing brands bring a sense of playfulness to an industry that’s often serious.

Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?

The collection I designed for Lany Space is for people who want a more playful living or studio space. From fun, wavy patterns to stylized objects and animals, I want to show that rugs don’t have to be boring.

Johann Banta’s Coral Design Rug is especially dear to him—and it’s clear why. “I love how the circles merge, producing an effect reminiscent of a lava lamp in rug form,” he explains.
